Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! I am excited to return to the Carmela community as Principal for my fourth year. As always, I am here to be of service to all our families. I am excited to share our school's accomplishments this past year. Most recently, one of our very own teachers has been recognized as the South Whittier School District Teacher of the Year. Additionally, we attained distinguished recognition from the California Department of Education, the California Pivotal Practice school for 2022! These accomplishments come with lots of hard work and commitment to our students and families in our community.
Every day, our outstanding teachers work tirelessly to create an exceptional learning environment for our students. Our entire staff is committed to working together with the Carmela community to promote safe and nurturing learning environments. We focus on the whole child and are committed to developing every student's true potential and growth. This year, we continue our journey with the Capturing Kid's Hearts program, which focuses on strengthening students' connectedness to others through enhancing healthy bonds with teachers and establishing collaborative agreements of acceptable behavior.
As a parent, you are your child's most important teacher. I invite you to get involved by joining our Parent Groups, volunteering at school activities, and taking an active role in your child's education. Our goal is to focus on increasing student achievement and doing whatever it takes to help ALL students succeed and find joy in coming to school daily. We are unconditionally committed to providing the best possible educational program at Carmela. Please review the student handbook for more information on the policies and programs our school offers
I invite you to visit our school website. If you need general information or wish to contact staff at the school directly, you may use the Staff Directory on the website or call (562) 941-2132.
